Funding opportunities and stimulus incentives for small business are evolving all the time, so we thought we’d check back with some sources we’ve reported on previously, plus some additional opportunities brought forward through the stimulus under the Recovery Act. The Q&A above is adapted from a web site we’ve explored before, BUZgate.org which bills itself as “America’s Small Business Assistance Network.”
A recent email from BUZgate showcased current funding sources from the SBA-funded Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) to a lineup of tax incentives including such Recovery Act initiatives as Special Depreciation Allowance: 50% depreciation benefit for qualifying 2009 property acquisitions; Business Credit Acceleration: Accelerate certain tax credits in lieu of bonus depreciation deduction; Extended Net Operating Loss Carryback: Carry back for up to 5 years expenses that exceeded 2008 income; Discharge Business Indebtedness: Repurchased types of debt in ’09 and ’10 offer extensions in tax payments; Hiring Incentives: Newly expanded work opportunity tax credit (WOTC) offers businesses incentives for hiring veterans and unskilled younger workers. Each is accompanied by a link to the BUZgate homepage. There you select your state and you’re given special information on tax incentives, Cobra details and energy incentives.
